Introduction

The E-rate News for the Week, prepared by E-Rate Central, is sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers("CCSSO") and made possible by a grant from the AT&T Foundation. Official SLD news is in the "What's New!" section of the SLD's Web site . Additional information is on the State Education Telecommunications Alliance's ("SETA") Web site.

Tech Plan Approver Locator on SLD Web Site

The SLD added a new search capability to its Web site this week that allows applicants to search by state for a list of certified technology plan reviewers (see Tech Plan Approver Locator).

To use the new search function, select your state from the pull down menu, check your applicant type, and click the "Search" button. For schools, the choices are Public, Independent/Private, Catholic, Christian, Jewish, or BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs). There is only one check box for libraries.

Applicants using the SLD Locator should recognize the following:

  1. The appearance of any given reviewer on a state list does not necessarily represent an endorsement by state authorities. If a state has arranged to have certain reviewers certified by the SLD to approve plans for its applicants, their names should appear in the list. In addition, however, the SLD may have certified reviewers on a national or regional basis whose names also appear on the individual state lists.

  2. A number of national, state-level, or regional organizations (such as independent school associations) are listed, often with a designation indicating that they will review plans only for their members.

  3. Some organizations on the list, both for-profit and non-profit, charge fees to review and approve technology plans. When in doubt, applicants should ask about fees before submitting plans for review.
